Take your current web development skills to the mobile world! Write an application using HTML5 + a mobile framework like jQuery Mobile or Sencha Touch 2 that will be supported across multiple mobile devices. If desired, you can also build & package your application using a utility called PhoneGap so that it can be deployed as a native application across multiple devices. You can even utilize PhoneGap’s APIs so your app can access various native features on mobile phones (ex. – Geolocation, Contacts, Camera, Local Database Storage, etc.). By the end of the night, walk away with the code for two sample applications that you can experiment with and deploy to any approved, provisioned mobile device.
We’ll discuss the following features of mobile web development, illustrating many of them through demos and code walkthroughs:
- The 5 "Levels" of Mobile Development
- CSS3 Media Queries
- Mobile Web Frameworks: jQuery Mobile, Sencha Touch 2, Kendo UI
- Ripple Extension for Chrome (for testing your HTML5 mobile apps)
- PhoneGap
